Once you go Mac...

I have to admit that I'm pretty proud of my alma mater/employer today.

In an exciting new move, OC announced today the launching of a new mobile computing initiative where every new student will be given an Apple MacBook AND their choice of a FREE iPhone OR a FREE iPod touch. The best part is that it doesn't cost the students any more than they were already paying for the Dell (and before that IBM) laptops that the school has been providing every student since 2001.

For the full story, check out the following links or watch the videos at the end of this:

This is the video that was shown in chapel today in front of all our students and several hundred high school students who were on campus for Spring Visit.

This is a video of the crowd reaction after the announcement was made.

Date Night

The Mitchell's had a date night tonight, because we haven't had one for a while AND also to celebrate my new part time job!!! After 10 interviews, I am happy to get started doing something. We ate at Bellini's, an Italian restaurant. We went there in high school for our junior prom, and haven't been back since. It is right by our house and I always think about going there when we drive by. Since it was my celebration I got to pick, and it was great...just as I remembered!

I also colored my hair this week. I still don't recognize myself. But, I haven't cried or majorly regretted it as I normally do with a big change! :)

What if there were only 100 people?

This video really makes me think about how blessed I really am. When it's reduced down to this level, it also makes me think that I actually have the ability do something to make an impact on my world. And before you ask, no... I'm not becoming a liberal pansy.

We're going on the subscription only plan

AM will be starting a new job in the foreseeable future in a profession (Marriage & Family Therapy/Mental Health) where having all of our life blogged out in public on the WWW where any of her clients who are looking for it can find it is probably not the best idea for us anymore.

So... on March 5th "AM & MM's Adventures in Life" is going to the subscription only plan.

If any of you, our faithful readers, would like to continue being able to access this blog, please post a comment that contains your email and we'll add you to our "subscriber" list. If you're not thrilled about leaving your email address in a comment on our blog, send one of us an email and we'll add you that way.

We know this is going to cause us to lose some of you. We don't know your name, but we know who you are. We have analytics on this bad boy and we see you coming to our site each day from a myriad of different links, web browsers, geographic locations, and Google searches. You know who you are, you creeper you. Don't worry or be embarrassed though, we're probably creeping on you too. If you all of the sudden decided to make your blog subscription only, you know we'd probably subscribe.

If giving up the guilty pleasure of anonymously creeping on our blog is too much to ask for the insignificant return on investment that reading it provides you, then in the words of those Budweiser commercials (imagine someone singing)... WE SALUTE YOU MR. (OR MRS.) ANONYMOUS BLOG CREEPER! It's been a fun ride.

Step 1: Put your iPod/iTunes or equivalent on random.

WARNING!!! SHAMELESS PLUG!!!

Hey OC friends, looking for something to do next Saturday night?

Why not try to win a four tickets to OC's Spring Sing 2008, dinner for four at Charleston's before the show, and a two night stay in what basically amounts to a fairly nice hotel room within a brand new dorm on the campus of Oklahoma Christian?

Music Recommendation

If you haven't already listened to his music on the iLike sidebar here on the blog, I want to recommend a guy by the name of Eric Hutchinson. His music is a combination of Stevie Wonder meets Justin Timberlake meets Ben Folds meets Prince meets Billy Joel. Sounds like a weird combo, but trust me, it's good. He has a very original, very upbeat pop rock sound with a lot of electric piano and foot tapping beats. Having said all that, despite how cliche' it sounds, E-Hutch (as a like to call him) really does defy categorization. Which probably explains why we're not hearing his stuff on the radio.

Songs I particularly like, though they're all good are (pop up alert):

You've Got You
Ok, It's Alright With Me
You Don't Have to Believe Me
Rock & Roll
Food Chain

Hope you enjoy.

Last week's project...

BEFORE:

AFTER:

We painted our upstairs room red this past week. At first I thought we had made a horrible mistake, but 3-4 coats later I am happy with it. The lighting in these pictures makes it difficult to tell what the true color looks like. We messed up our white trim, but I think we will take a break and work on that later. We started using rollers to paint, then from Kate's recommendation moved to these pads. They were awesome! "I will never roll again" (spoken like Buttercup on the princess bride when she claims: I will never love again!) My mom came over and helped me make the curtains to fit the window on my sewing machine. (One of my 08 goals if you recall!)I am thinking about painting the closet doors black. Please comment yes or no to black doors (or maybe white..hmmm).

Happy Valentines Day

I was really disappointed but we forgot our camera on Valentines day, so no pics. Michael worked, and I made heart sugar cookies and, as the tradition stands, helped my dad decorate my mom's bulletin board at her school. I love holidays! We picked up our favorite meal to go from Cheesecake factory and went downtown to stay at the Skirvin with Michael's well accumulated hotel points. The hotel was nicely remodeled and very swanky! We relaxed, ate cheesecake, went swimming, watched LOST, and had a yummy breakfast. I don't think it gets much better!

My flowers from Michael and our cards for each other and from parents.

An update

Back on January 3, I posted a list of a few very specific goals that I want to accomplish in 2008. Today, one month and six days later, I am providing an update on where I am in relationship to reaching the goals that I set for myself.

Goal # 1: Run a 10K
Progress: I have been running between 6 and 10 miles per week consistently since January 3. I've come across a few challenges that stand in the way of achieving this goal, but have been able to hurdle them so far. The first challenge has been making (or finding) the time to spend an hour or so on the treadmill. Once I'm on the treadmill, another challenge has been running through the pain in my heals and my knees. I'm not getting winded, but I do end up experiencing a pretty good deal of what I'm calling "impact pain" in my knees and my feet. Despite these challenges, running has become something that I look forward to and I think I will probably reach this goal.

Goal #2: Reduce our student loan debt by 50%
Progress: I'm a little discouraged to report that we are not on track to reach this goal. No big deal though. We don't pay our student loan bills with checks (thank you online payment) but if we did, it would be the easiest check to write each month. I'm not too worried about where we are on this one just yet because we are doing the best we can to reach it.

Goal #3: I would like to use my mind, my time, and my dime to make a positive impact on an organization that is making a positive impact on society or in the lives of others.
Progress: I'm working on this one. I've contacted a couple of different non-profits to see what kind of volunteer opportunities they have available. So far, one of them has gotten back in touch with me so we'll see where that takes me.

Goal #4: I would like to better organize my private world and be more deliberate about my relationship with God.
Progress: Some days are better than others and some days are worse. This is something I have to strive towards daily.

Goal #5: Evict Scrat the Squirrel from my attic.
Progress: I'm sad to say that Scrat (due mainly to a lack of time to coordinate my schedule with the schedule of the good people at Dog Gone Critters) is winning the battle on this one.

So... a recap. I'm making really good progress on one goal, I'm making OK progress on another, I'm not doing nearly as well as I want on two of the goals, and I'm failing miserably at goal #5.

How are you doing on your goals for 2008?

Atlantis... the space shuttle, not the resort

I was at Kennedy Space Center today for work and I saw the space shuttle Atlantis lift off from about a mile away.

Definitely not a typical day in the office, but I'll take it.

My favorite part (if you listen carefully you can hear it) was all of the car alarms that started going off from the rumble of the sound. It took almost 10 seconds for the sound to get to where we were standing, but when it got there, it shook my whole body and I could feel the rumble in my chest.

Just because he loves me...

or maybe it was because I was disappointed about a job...either way I think he is great and I am really lucky!

We made crepes!!

My friend Emily and I made these wonderful chicken crepes last week. As the recipes states, "with a saucy ham and asparagus filling, these savory crepes make a lovely dinner. They're a wonderful change of pace from everyday fare." At the end of the meal we agreed it truly was a wonderful change of pace from everyday fare...but really, who talks like that?!

Afterwards we made chocolate crepes with nutella filling and homemade whipped cream. They were Ah-mazing! So I think we will probably move to France and peddle our crepes on the streets of Paris! Au revoir!
